A good mariner should have a great depth knowledge of various ship terms and better understanding of each terms. This article will explain amidship  terms which are important to learn and understand with the help of a figure given below.

1.Midship or amidship : midpoint between the aft and forward perpendicular is know as midship.

2. Beam/width/extreme breadth : The greatest distance from 2 sides of the ship at the amidship is known as beam.

3. Extreme depth : Length taken between underside of the deck of the amidship to the bottom of the keel. Along the ship, the depth various.

4. Moulded depth : In simple words it is the depth of the ship without considering the thickness of plate or it is the top of the keel to the underside of the upper deck.

5. Camber or round beam : It is defined as the side of the deck going from side to the center of the ship.

6. Rise of floor or dead rise : The rise or the hight of the intersection above the keel is known as rise of floor or dead rise.

7. Tumble home : we can understand it by simple words as tumble home is the term used to describe the narrowing of a ship's hull as it's rises above the waterline.

8. Draught/Draft : It is the vertical distance between keel and the water line of the ship.

9. Trim : It is the difference between forward and aft part.
